Ho hum....

I promise that this website will not become a Tiger fanboy site, but Tiger -135 this week is just sick!

If he was playing against the country club's finest, I could understand.

Tiger Woods -135

Field +120

I think your best bet in this tournament would be to find "without Tiger" bets on individuals. So basically, everyone is conceding that 2nd place is wide open!

Other Notables that I see value in (To Win Only -- "with Tiger"):

Robert Allenby +6000

Lee Westwood +6600

Aaron Baddeley +7000

Zach Johnson +8000

Stuart Appleby +8000

JB Holmes +12500

To put this into another context, you can get better odds on the following in today's games:

  • It is less likely that Indiana who is a 2' point favorite to beat Arkansas than for Tiger to beat EVERY best golfer in the world. (Indiana -130)

  • Oregon, a two point dog to Mississippi St., has as good of a chance to win as ANYONE besides Tiger this week. (Oregon +120)

  • There are only TWO major league baseball teams who are more heavily favored out of 14 GAMES ON THE CARD! (Mets -152; Yankees -170)

That being said, who's ready to jump on mmy Tiger action for the week?

The Greatest Putter of All Time

Simply put, Tiger Woods is the greatest clutch putter of all-time. I think this statement is hardly even up for discussion.
I want to take it a step further and say he deserves a simpler, yet more profound title, The Greatest Putter of All-Time! Tiger has an uncanny ability to focus on the moment and deliver upon his goal. Nobody EVER has done this better in sports. Putting in golf just happens to be the perfect forum for someone to show this specific talent off better than any other.
To my knowledge, Tiger also had another "first" for golf. He had negative odds starting this week in a PGA event against the field. That is ludicrous! We will try and look up a number on how much books made off of that venture. My guess is that the public had to be favoring the field in that proposition. I guess they forgot that it would probably come down to a putt in the clutch needing to be made. Oh well!

Conference Tournament Auto-Bids are Bullshit!

Let me preface this post with the fact that I am a Georgia grad and extremely proud of the unreal effort the put the Bulldogs in the big dance.

That being said, there is absolutely NO WAY we should be continuing our season into the NCAA tournament! We doubled (yes, doubled) the amount of conference wins that we had all season over the last 4 days. We were competitive in most games even up against very talented teams such as Tennessee.

I would be more than happy to walk away from this forgettable season with the prestigous title of 2008 SEC champions. Who wouldn't be? I think the automatic bids de-value effort put forth by teams throughout the entire year. There's plenty of arguments that could be made against my stance here.

Let's put it another way. I think it's much clearer when using teams outside of a major conference:
Texas-Arlington gets into the tournament with the automatic bid from the Southland Conference. You have Stephen F. Austin who was 26-5 overall and 13-3 in conferce. (Lamar was also 13-3 in conference, but was 19-11 overall). Texas-Arlington was a paltry 7-9 in conference. Basically, you have a sub-par season in a sub-par conference, BUT you get to go to the tournament as a reward for a few good days of high level play.

This is absolute bullshit in my opinon.

I will put one caveat on my overall opinion (knowing that my caveat actually goes against the example above). I do like the fact that all conferences are represented in the tournament. So if your conference is not represented by an at-large selection, then your conference champion is awarded a bid.

This, of course, would still leave my Bulldogs watching the tourney from the comfort of their own couch.

sic 'em,
